Boyle: ‘We were there as shields’

The final occupier of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, Robert Fry told negotiators he was ready to die instead of turn himself in Thursday. The other three, Sean and Sandy Anderson of Riggins and Jeff Banta of Yerlington, Nevada, walked out of the refuge to the checkpoint where Evangelist Rev. Franklin Graham and Nevada Assemblyman Michele Fiore of Las Vegas were waiting. Missing were two Idaho lawmakers, Republican Reps. Judy Boyle of Midvale and Heather Scott of Blanchard who were to have walked into the refuge with Fiore, Graham and others who were going to ensure the occupiers’ safety. But at the final minutes the FBI separated Graham and Fiore from the others, which made the occupiers “freak out,” Boyle said. But soon Fiore and the FBI got the three to leave/ Idaho Statesman .
