‘Free Travelers’ run-ins on rise

Self-described “sovereign citizens” who claim they don’t need a driver’s license are not a new thing for Spokane County deputies, but Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich said the number of incidents appears to be on the rise. “We’ve seen this for years,” Knezovich said. “It seems like this thing in Oregon has really brought these types out of the woodwork.” Deputies have dealt with two people in the past week who claimed to be a “traveler” or “free traveler,” and said that, according to the U.S. Constitution, they didn’t have to have a license/ Nina Culver , SR.
