Reject bumptious Trump

One good thing about looking up words in an old-fashioned dictionary book is that sometimes you discover words that you’ve never heard of before but are really useful.

I looked up the definition of “bumpkin” to be sure of its precise meaning. Well, the next word after “bumpkin” is “bumptious.” Definition: “self-assertive or proud to an irritating degree. Synonyms: self-important, conceited, arrogant, self-assertive, pushy, pompous, overbearing, cocky, swaggering.” It looks like “bumptious” fits Donald Trump to a “T,” and the close association with the word “bumpkin” is amusing.

Let’s get serious. Think of the U.S. government as a large, complex corporation with many different components and international operations. And you’re a shareholder. Think of IBM, Procter and Gamble, or DuPont Co. for examples. Imagine it has struggled through seven years of mediocre, substandard performance with several examples of incompetent leadership in both domestic and international operations.

Do you think the shareholders would want to hire Trump, a real estate investor and developer, to be the new chief executive officer? Do you really want to be closely associated with him? Besides, the current CEO has already demonstrated the consequences of bumptious leadership and relying on “hope and change.”
