Call it a baby

“Newborn left at fire station under safe-haven law (Feb. 3)” was the story of a woman who was brave enough to give her child life even though she was not able to raise the child herself. That baby will probably be the answer to the prayer of a childless couple.

My problem with the article was that Assistant Chief Brian Schaeffer was quoted as saying, “We’ve responded to calls where fetuses have been abandoned that were alive.” My question to those people afraid to call a baby a baby is: “Do we need to call a baby a fetus because it’s easier to kill a fetus?” When, exactly, does a live fetus become a baby?

I’ve never heard a pregnant lady rub her stomach and say “my little fetus.” Wake up, people, it’s a baby.
