Intolerance nabs D’Souza
Thanks for the Feb. 5 article on Gonzaga University barring the public from hearing Dinesh D’Souza on campus. I had heard of this event two days prior on radio, but couldn’t believe it.
Dinesh came to America as a Rotary Club exchange student from Goa, India, an ancient Portuguese maritime colony where his ancestors were “encouraged” to become Catholic. As a student at Dartmouth University, he excelled and later served with President Reagan.
Dinesh has been to Spokane several times. I heard him speak at a dinner sponsored by the Washington Policy Center. Later that same evening, he spoke at Whitworth College to a packed house in Cowles Auditorium. I introduced Dinesh at a Spokane College Women’s luncheon that was recorded and aired statewide on TVW, channel 25. Dinesh later spoke at Northwest Christian School’s fundraising event. I’m surprised Gonzaga finds him so dangerous.
One thing I do remember Dinesh saying that stuck with me. He was quoting Jesus when he said, “turn the other cheek.” Dinesh said, “Jesus also turned over some tables, when religious and political leaders were ripping off the people.”
It’s funny how intolerant the tolerant are. Better to indulge a reformation before a revolution.
