Veteran not impressed

I read with interest Carol Snyder’s Feb. 13 letter concerning the Faster Care for Veterans Act. Her description sounded great, but if you actually read the proposed legislation, it falls far short of Snyder’s glowing report.

It does not “push VA to use modern scheduling software without delay.” Rather it requires the Veterans Administration to conduct a limited test of commercially available software for 18 months, then report back to Congress. The VA would have to competitively bid the software, select a contractor, set up the system and pay for it.

That’s right, the act specifically says that no additional funding will be provided. So an already cash-strapped VA gets to waste time and money on this test, so Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers can claim she is looking out for the interests of veterans in this election year. This is one veteran who is not impressed.
