Mule Deer Summit in Omak March 12

HUNTING — A Mule Deer Summit stacked with educational programs is set for March 12 in Omak, sponsored by the Okanogan Trails chapter of the Mule Deer Foundation .

The free event will runs 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Omak Elks Lodge, 110 Ash St. S., with hors d’oeuvres, a no-host bar, and a rifle raffle. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is participating in the programs.

Matt Marsh, the foundation’s summit coordinator, listed the following scheduled presentations:

• Okanogan Mule Deer Study by Woody Myers, WDFW mule deer research biologist.
• Deer Biology and Ecology by Sara Hansen, WDFW statewide deer specialist.
• Okanogan Mule Deer Status and Trends by Jeff Heinlein, WDFW assistant district wildlife biololgist.
• Highway Deer Kill Study, “Highway 97 Safe Passage” by Kelly McAllister, Washington Department of Transportation  wildlife biologist.
• Okanogan County Fawn Mortality Study by Carolyn Shores, University of Washington researcher.

Information booths will be hosted by several groups and agencies.
