Offended by ‘smudge’

Along with other Catholics, I am deeply offended by the wording included in your front page Feb. 11 article regarding the beginning of the Lenten season.

Ashes are not a “smudge.” They are applied in the symbol of the cross. Perhaps your editors and writers need to have a semblance of knowledge about the content of their material.
