DOTC: Whatever happened to term limits
DanoftheCity (RE: Commissioner Green won’t seek re-election ): A couple of thoughts. First, I give Dan Green high credit for announcing this early (although with filing date in March, not super early). That’s the right thing to do for the voters, his party, and potential candidates. Thanks Dan.
Term limits. I remember a time, not that long ago, when term limits was THE hot item with my Republican friends…probably as popular as repealing Obamacare is today with them. Funny thing happened on the way to the finish line though…sometimes it sucks to be the party in power, especially if you want to stay in power…ask not for whom the term limit bell tolls, it was going to toll for them…so they repealed it at the last minute…haven’t heard much since until reading Commissioner Green’s comments today. Again, thank you Dan.
Kootenai County Commissioners. I don’t know why but frankly the voters do an exceptional job of term limiting them. It’s hard to find one that made it more than two terms in recent memory. Just as an FYI, many people may not realize but commissioners are the only elected officials I know of that rotate between a 2 year term and a 4 year term and therefore, every two years two of the three of them are up for election which means it is possible to radically change directions that often.
Question: Why don’t Republicans talk much about term limits any more?
