License for guns

What if gun control functioned like the Department of Licensing? Think about it. To drive a car, a person needs a license to show they know how to drive. However, a person can go to a gun store, pass the background check and get a gun with no past experience at all with firearms.

The background check can state whether someone has a criminal record, but can’t show if they know how to handle a gun. A licensing program, though, could insure that anyone who wants a gun is schooled about firearms before getting hold of one.

And if a person does anything stupid, their license could be revoked and their gun impounded. Similar to someone having their driver’s license revoked and car impounded. There could also be different licenses for different guns, like how there is a special license to drive semi-trucks. Same could go for assault rifles.

This idea of a driver licensing-type program for guns may not stop all mass shooting, but neither can background checks. However, gun owners need to start showing some responsibility with their guns. Just as a person needs a license before getting behind the wheel of a car, so too a license before handling a gun.
