Clerks lack courtesy

When I read Tom Hinkle’s Jan. 11 letter about “thank you” being extinct, my first thought was, “Oh don’t get me started on this subject.” I am so relieved to know there is someone else out there who feels as I do about this.

I was professionally trained as a sales clerk at the old Crescent many years ago. Clerks thanked the customer for coming into our store and making a purchase. We even added, “We hope to see you again.”

Now when I shop, I, the customer, am the one who ends up thanking the clerk for throwing my bag on the counter. And instead of a “you’re welcome,” I get a “no problem.”

I should hope it is not a problem that I just spent money in their store and probably paid their salary. And stores wonder why we’re all shopping online now.
