Holiday brings many to the Capitol, for ceremonies and more…
Today is a state holiday – Martin Luther King Jr./Idaho Human Rights Day – but the Legislature doesn’t take holidays, so it’s still in session; it’ll be in session on President’s Day, too. Still, there’s lots going on in the Capitol today on this day when many Idahoans are off school or work and can visit.
The state’s official MLK Day ceremony starts at noon in the second-floor rotunda, with music, speeches and proclamations. There’s a march from BSU to the Capitol leading up to the ceremony. There’s also a 12:30 rally on the steps in favor of the “Stop Tuition Hikes” ballot measure to raise cigarette taxes and lower college tuition; and it’s “Pharmacy Day” at the Capitol today. As part of that event, white-coated pharmacists and pharmacy students are in the first-floor rotunda until 1 p.m., giving flu shots, conducting cholesterol screenings and more.
