A REAL issue for Shea

It was no surprise to me that 4th Legislative District Rep. Matt Shea went to Oregon to meet with the trespassers who want to dismantle the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge and give that fragile high mountain desert land to ranchers for grazing. The leader of those protesting squatters is from a Nevada ranching family who refuses to pay grazing fees. Matt met with those protesters in Nevada during that previous confrontation.

I am confused now though, because Matt is calling for The Spokesman-Review to retract the article. If Matt did not meet with the refuge trespassers, why does he not simply say so, and give the S-R basis for retracting the original article? If Matt did go to meet with the refuge trespassers, but now regrets doing so, why does he not simply apologize, and the S-R can report that apology?

In any case, I personally wish Matt would work on a resolution for the federal REAL ID requirement. Matt is an attorney, who better to write a bill to address the issue? Otherwise, all of Washington citizens without an enhanced driver’s license or passport will not be able to fly commercial airlines as of Jan. 1, 2018.
