Brain injuries unique
Regarding the Jan. 19 article, “Mind Matters,” concerning traumatic brain injuries: This article touched me personally because I had suffered a traumatic brain injury from a car accident when I was 13, and it completely altered the course of my life. It is still affecting me 20 years later. I had to adapt to memory issues, processing delays, double vision, as well as public anxiety.
A brain injury is like any other injury to any other parts of the body: it heals and scars. But unlike a broken bone that may alter your pitching arm, a “broken” brain completely alters how you think. If you want to see this illustrated, visit the TBI support group at Saint Luke’s Rehabilitation Center.
The brain is the most important organ in our bodies. Do everything you can to protect it.
