Fair day’s pay

I have read with dismay the article by Sue Lani Madsen concerning Initiative 1433, which would raise the minimum wage. Again we are subjected to the nonsense of the “let them eat cake” class of people who disregard the fact that poor people don’t have discretionary income and are determined to keep them that way. The lack of income is the bane of small business. Watching people walking past your business instead of coming inside spending money is directly related to empty pockets.

Madsen states, “Progressive sources supporting higher minimum wage laws fail to address the question of who is going to pay for it.” What do those opposed to the pay hike think the poor people who get those raises are going to do with that money? Put it in their Swiss bank accounts? Send it to the Cayman Islands or Panama? No. They’ll spend it right here, where it matters most.

Progressives have always had the welfare of the working class as their primary focus. We don’t need to wonder what the focus of those who oppose a livable wage is. All we have ever asked for is a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work.
