What is mainstream in Kootenai County?

I launched a debate within a debate yesterday when I columnized (“My 2 Cents: Local GOP is broken”) that local GOP chairman Brent Regan and the county Central Committee don’t represent mainstream Republican values.

Taryn: The definition of mainstream is “a prevailing current or direction of activity or influence.” I’d say the KCRCC represents the mainstream in KoCo. If they didn’t represent the mainstream, the election results wouldn’t be what they were and the KCRCC leadership wouldn’t be what it is. Is it broken? The majority of voters in Kootenai County don’t seem to think so. If you’re not feeling the new mainstream and want to break off, why not join the Dems rather than form a third party that would probably be even weaker than the Dems?

Dan of the City: I would fine tune that to say those folks represent the “prevailing current or direction of activity or influence” of the extremely small sample of voting eligible population in those districts that actually vote in a party primary. That’s good enough to win in our system.

Question: What is political mainstream in Kootenai County?
