Regan didn’t ♥ assessment letter either

Brent Regan, the new chairman of the Kootenai County GOP Central Committee, as well as chairman of the Idaho Freedom Foundation, didn’t like the wording of the assessment letter sent out by Assessor Mike McDowell either. Regan admonished McDowell in an email:

“I have no doubt that you would not appreciate a legislative update letter that blames higher property taxes on higher assessed values, yet your words invite just such a letter. I appreciate that my inference may not align with your intent, however, as an elected official you are well aware of the need for carefully considered official statements. My advice is that you may wish to take steps to ameliorate the impression you may have given and to carefully consider similar actions in the future.” Full email here.

McDowell was also received a critical email from state Rep. Eric Redman for circulating the assessment notice with a paragraph explaining how a cap on the homeowners exemption may affect property taxes in the future. McDowell named Redman among a handful of Kootenai County GOP legislators who voted for the exemption cap here.
