Idaho’s Max prison remains on partial lockdown after weekend fight
The Idaho Maximum Security Institution, also known as the Max, remains in partial lockdown today, after a fight between eight to 10 inmates in a day room on Saturday afternoon. No inmates or staff members were seriously injured, according to Idaho Department of Correction spokesman Jeff Ray; the inmates didn’t respond to commands to stop fighting until after officers both used tear gas and fired “less-lethal” sting-ball rounds, a type of rubber buckshot.
All 64 inmates on the tier, A-3, are now confined to their cells; IDOC Director Kevin Kempf has ordered a “serious incident review.” The Max is a 516-bed men’s maximum security prison located south of Boise.
