U.S. complacent about guns

Shame on us again. Forty-nine more lives lost in Orlando while the gun control debate drags on; or does it? The NRA has the most powerful lobbying force in the U.S. By definition a debate is “a formal discussion on a particular topic in a public meeting or legislative assembly, in which opposing arguments are put forward.”

Wake up, people! We have become a nation of individuals who pay others to change our oil, mow our lawns and even baby sit our pets. We stare at our cell phones for the latest news on the Kim Kardashians of the world. Our great nation and the privileges we enjoy were hard-fought for by men and women in conflicts that many Americans cannot name.

The world is watching. Our great nation is imploding. It’s time for all of us to find our own voice. The most difficult conversations are those that make us uncomfortable. We have become complacent allowing those with the loudest voices to determine our fate as a people.

I quote Admiral Yamamoto following the bombing of Pearl Harbor: “I fear all we have done is awaken a sleeping giant.” Are we a sleeping giant or are we just sleeping?
