Ketchum joins Sandpoint in banning cell phones while driving

Here’s a news item from the Associated Press: KETCHUM, Idaho (AP) — Officials in Ketchum have begun enforcing a city ordinance banning the use of cellphones while driving. KTVB-TV ( http://bit.ly/1ZXfW3i ) reports that the city of Ketchum passed the ordinance in April, but officials wanted to give residents enough time to learn about the new ban and put up signs. Currently, Ketchum and Sandpoint are the only Idaho cities to ban drivers from using cellphones. State law only bans texting while driving. According to Ketchum’s ordinance, drivers will be given a warning if caught violating the ban over the next year. However, drivers will be issued a citation and a $100 fine if their handheld device is found to be the cause of an accident.
