Beware of latest phone scam

Officials with the U.S. Attorney’s office and the U.S. Marshal Service are warning of a telephone scam targeting people in the Boise, Pocatello and Twin Falls areas, in which the victims receive a message from a person claiming to be a deputy U.S. Marshal. When the victims return the call, they get an official-sounding voice message saying they’ve reached the “U.S. Marshals Service serving the Northern District of Idaho.” Once connected to a person, victims are told they face a federal arrest warrant unless they pay a fine to settle out of court, and are instructed to buy a prepaid Visa or MasterCard and read the number from it over the phone/ Betsy Russell , Eye on Boise.
