Cleanup is good news

Kudos for the muddy waters/Hangman Creek cleanup article on June 12. Growing up in the 1950s and ‘60s, I often saw muddy Hangman from the High Drive bluffs. Over the last few months, I’ve worked in Vinegar Flats and watched the steam flow almost daily. I expected to see muddy waters, but am surprised the creek flows pretty clear most days. But not every day.

Efforts to improve the watershed are bearing fruit, so let’s continue the effort.

Curious that your article uses the darker Hangman Creek name rather than Latah Creek. Let’s hope the Indian name meaning “pine and pestle” endures.
