Daily News: Facts no longer matter?

In an editorial for the Moscow-Pullman Daily News, Devin Rokyta comments that facts no longer matter in political arguments today:

At some point facts stopped mattering, or, at the very least, the difference between fact and opinion - or outright lies - became very blurred. Maybe social media is to blame. Maybe it is talk radio. Maybe it is a product of an ineffective media. Or maybe people just aren’t that bright. Whatever the cause, the result is people are thoroughly confused and misinformed - most often purposively by those with an agenda — about many of the world’s most important issues. Conversations and debates our society needs to have can’t advance because we can’t agree on a simple set of facts. Science rarely matters. History is irrelevant. Data are ignored. Few bother to question or do simple fact checks. More here.

Question: Agree/disagree?
