Deputy catches felon with 9mm handgun

At about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, a Kootenai County Sheriff’s deputy was westbound on Interstate 90 near the state line when he noticed a car in front of him weaving side to side. Once the deputy stopped the car, he saw that driver Daniel J.M. Lewis, 33, of Spokane, was nervous. The deputy learned that Lewis was driving on a suspended driver’s license and was on felony probation stemming from a robbery conviction in 2013. Lewis was subsequently arrested for the driver’s license violation. During the impound of the car, the deputy located a 9mm handgun next to the driver’s seat along with marijuana, heroin and drug paraphernalia that Lewis had allegedly attempted to conceal.

Lewis was booked into the Kootenai County Jail for several charges, including driving on a suspended license, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, possession of drug paraphernalia, attempting to conceal/destroy evidence, possession of heroin and possession of marijuana. Lewis’ criminal history includes over 10 felony arrests. He is currently being held without bond pending his first appearance/Lt. Stu Miller, KCSD.
