How long will you live?

Last night, in between our 41st anniversary and my mother’s 91st birthday, Mrs. O asked me: “Do you think you’ll live to be as old as your mother?” My immediate response was “no.” I figure I’ll check out around 85-88. We have some longevity in my family. My Godfather, mom’s half brother, lived to be 89. My maternal grandmother made it to her 80s. My paternal grandfather almost made it to his 80s. OTOH, my maternal grandfather and my father both died at age 55, the latter in a vehicle accident. I’ve seen enough of Assisted Living facilities and Life Care facilities in the last few years to know that quality of life gets increasingly important as you age. I wouldn’t be interested in living for the sake of living if dementia had set in — or physical disabilities were overwhelming. But that’s not my call. It’s my goal to live as well and healthy as possible for as long as possible — and to help others along the way.

Question: How long do you expect to live?
