One love that matters

With the horrific and undeserved deaths in Orlando, people everywhere are calling for love. They believe it can end an epidemic of violence over differences and save lives.

But no matter how sincere and how sweetly expressed, human love cannot save the soul. As the cry for love spreads, the one love that matters, the one that is supreme, remains ignored as it has been for a long time.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” John 3:16. The offer is inclusive-“whosoever”-but “believeth” is a stringent requirement, and “perish” cannot be discarded in this message of love.

The one love that matters is Jesus. His death was also horrific and undeserved, but it paid our penalty for sin. That’s the love the world needs to embrace; He is the one in whom the world must believe.
