Wild Card/Tuesday — 6.28.16
I’m delighted that the city of Coeur d’Alene will recognize the late Art Manley and Scott Reed with a special day Friday. The two conservationists left their fingerprints over so much that we take for granted. Tubbs Hill. Sanders Beach. Lake Coeur d’Alene. I remember their battle to prevent construction of a small subdivision on Cougar Bay, a project that would have changed the nature of that wildlife refuge. At first, I didn’t think Scott and other conservationists had a chance at preserving the bay. In the end, they did. As I look around now, with our neck of the woods lurching so far to the right, I wonder, who will be the next Art Manley or Scott Reed to step forward to fight the fight against this region’s baser impulses and preserve our way of life for future generations to enjoy. Here’s your Tuesday Wild Card …
