Trib: Nuxoll wants Bible in classroom

In a recent Lewiston Tribune editorial, Opinion Editor Marty Trillhaase wrote:

Something simply must be done. Idaho public schools are not using the Holy Bible as a reference book. Sure, no teacher can use the Bible to promote religion. That would violate not only the U.S. Constitution’s separation of church and state and the U.S. Supreme Court’s rulings, but the Idaho Constitution as well. But if educators aren’t utilizing the Bible as a reference book, then it’s time for the Idaho Legislature to stop whatever else it’s doing and get right to work. So says Sen. Sheryl Nuxoll, R-Cottonwood. Joined by 15 of her colleagues - including Sen. Chuck Winder, R-Boise, and Reps. Heather Scott, R-Blanchard, Ron Nate, R-Rexburg, Shannon McMillan, R-Silverton, and Paul Shepherd, R-Riggins - Nuxoll is promoting a bill that reminds teachers they are “expressly permitted” to use the Bible in any field of study where an understanding of the book would be “useful or relevant.” “A lot of teachers are scared to use the Bible,” Nuxoll told the Senate Education Committee. With good reason. More here.

Question: Do you see a role for the use of the Bible in a public classroom?
