Crane on an Idaho win for Cruz: ‘I hope he picks Marco Rubio as his running mate’

Ron Crane (Betsy Z. Russell)

At least one TV network has now called Idaho a win for Ted Cruz in the GOP race, after he led with 41.5 percent of the vote with 47 percent of precincts reporting. Donald Trump was in second place at 29.4 percent; Marco Rubio in third with 18 percent; and John Kasich in fourth with 7.3 percent.

Idaho state Treasurer Ron Crane, state chairman for the Cruz campaign, said, “I’m very, very pleased with the results. Idaho turned out for Ted Cruz. I think that he represents the values that Idaho Republican voters believe in. I think he connected with Idahoans – his timing was perfect.” Crane recalled Cruz’s overflowing rally in Coeur d’Alene on Saturday, and “the energy level” there.

“I think he has a good shot at winning the nomination,” Crane said. “He’s the man you’d better get behind if you want to stop Donald Trump. And I hope he picks Marco Rubio as his running mate – I think they’d be a great team.”

Crane said he considers Rubio “a very talented guy,” and said, “I’d like to see him on the ticket – I think it’d be an unstoppable team.”

Idaho GOP Chairman Steve Yates said, “We congratulate Sen. Cruz on his victory. Now it’s time for the party to come back together and unite behind one candidate, and let’s elect a Republican in November.”
