Gonzaga had a return trip to the Elite Eight in its grasp but it slipped away. The Zags scored only one point in the last 2:55 and committed a pair of costly turnovers as Syracuse rallied for a 63-60 victory Friday at the United Center. The 11th-seeded Zags (28-8) fell short of a second straight Elite Eight as Syracuse closed the game on a 9-1 run. No. 10 Syracuse (22-13) advances to an Elite Eight matchup with top-seeded Virginia (29-7) on Sunday. Gonzaga’s Kyle Wiltjer scored 23 points and Domantas Sabonis added 19 points and 17 boards. No other Zags reached double figures. GU led 57-48 but couldn’t hold off the Orange in the final 6-plus minutes. From that point, Syracuse outscored the Zags 15-3/ Jim Meehan , SR. More here.
