Patty Duke’s teen hit: ‘Don’t Just Stand There’

When I was a teen, I remember hearing and enjoying teen actress/singer Patty Duke’s hit single, “Don’t Just Stand There.” After she moved to Coeur d’Alene in the 1990s, I found the album featuring the hit single at a garage sale. I bought it and later had Patty (Anna Pearce) sign it through an intermediary, Mike Kennedy. The signature says: “Dear Dave, This is pre-pre-Huckleberry, thank God! But our animals will keep up the grist for the mill. Thanks for all your support” — Anna Patty Duke Pearce. P.S. You are an historian.” Patty/Anna was talking about an item in my Huckleberry column in which I mentioned her horses had gotten out of their field.
