No democracy, just oligarchy

“Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth.” – Abraham Lincoln.

Given the obvious rigging of the electoral process, we have once again come to the bitter realization that what we really have is not a democracy where one person equals one vote, nor even a republic where we elect representatives who actually work for us, but an oligarchy whose motto is “Off the people, buy the people, forget the people.”

In this bizarre election year, which reflects the fundamental insanity of modern American society, fueled by an exponentially increasing awareness of the frightening truth we have gone over the cliff financially, environmentally and morally to name a few, it might be a good time to remind ourselves of our rights and our legal power over our government as put forth in this quote from a wise man who guided the nation through its darkest days of violent internal strife.

“This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it, or exercise their revolutionary right to overthrow it.” Power to the people.
