ISP officer involved in shooting ID’d

Acting on behalf of Sheriff Ben Wolfinger, Lt. Stu Miller issued a news release moments ago identifying the ISP officer involved in a shooting exchange with a wanted man in the Cougar Gulch area:

“The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office working as the lead agency for the Region One Critical Incident Team is updating information for the community on the April 19, 2016 pursuit and shooting that occurred in the Cougar Gulch area which led to an extensive manhunt for the suspect. The Idaho State Police Trooper that was involved in the incident has been interviewed by detectives and is fully cooperating with the investigation.

“The trooper has been identified as Corporal Shane Grady. Corporal Grady has been a member of the Idaho State Police for three years. He is currently on administrative leave per the agency’s policy, but will be released back to duty soon. The suspect, identified as J. Scott Salmond, was later located and apprehended in Spokane on probation violation charges. He is still being held at the Spokane County Jail, awaiting extradition to Idaho.

“Due to this being an ongoing and active investigation, further information is not being released at this time.”
