Color us purple
New blog Super Sub Taryn Thompson offered an interesting insight into the demographics of Huckleberries Online. In a question-and-answer period during our River City Academy presentation Wednesday, Taryn said that the middle-of-the-road demographics of this blog best fit the Coeur d’Alene area, the most moderate (by Idaho standards) place in North Idaho. In other words, she would paint the blog and the city of Coeur d’Alene purple to reflect a blue-and-red mix that you don’t find elsewhere in North Idaho (five northern counties). The farther away that you venture from the Coeur d’Alene hub, the redder the demographics get. Post Falls is redder than Coeur d’Alene. By the time you get to the Phil Hart legislative district (District 2) and Bonner County the color has turned to the purest form of red — an Alice in Wonderland, off-with-their-heads Queen of Hearts red. Taryn is onto something. There’s one true-blue Democrat on the City Council (Dan English) — and there may be two. Coeur d’Alene voters have dumped the Queen of Hearts True Believers who managed to hold office for a short period on the City Council and School Board. Color Coeur d’Alene purple. It’s a nice color for this blog, too/ DFO.
