Rachel Riggs rips Regan for attack

As you may recall, board Chairman Brent Regan of Idaho Freedom Foundation posted a strange, nasty, online comment after House District 3 candidate Peter Riggs’ close loss to Rep. Donald Cheatham in the GOP primary. Regan inferred that politics had broken up the marriage of Peter’s parents — former Lt. Gov. Jack Riggs and Rachel Caughran Riggs. You can read Regan’s comment here. This afternoon, Rachel Caughran Riggs responded to Regan’s comment on Facebook. With her permission, I print the response here:

“Regarding Brent Regan’s strange comments about my family, I felt compelled to reply. I don’t know Brent Regan, and he certainly doesn’t know me. Politics did not break up my marriage, and why Regan seems to think it concerns him enough to write an open letter about it, boggles my mind. I was involved in politics long before Jack was, having worked for Senator McClure on Capitol Hill in the 70s, then again for Dirk Kempthorne here in Coeur d’Alene. Jack and I both got involved to make a better life for our children. In case you need reminding, almost everything involves politics. Peter ran, because he wanted to make things better for HIS children. So, please, quit speaking about things you know nothing about. It speaks to how you should NOT be involved in politics. We need truth and unity, not lies and vitriol.”
