A king without clothes

“She should not be allowed to run,” proclaims Donald Trump, attacking Secretary Hillary Clinton. Who does he think he is? A lord and master of the United States? We all know Hillary’s values and Trump’s deficiencies; we just have to open our eyes and ears.

And no, I will not accept Trump calling one of us women a “fat pig.” I feel degraded for myself, and my daughter, my granddaughters, my friends, my neighbors. And to all of the men: How do you feel when the women in your life are demeaned so? Trump is not a paradigm of success, but an unrestrained braggart, deeply and seriously unskilled in thinking, but well practiced in brandishing words against women like so many throws of a pie.

Yes, one mocking, belittling and disparaging “fat pig” is one too many. For once, let us see that the king has no clothes.

Americans threw off the yoke of English oppression long ago, when we decided that a “prince” who is a “tyrant” is “unfit to be the ruler of a free people.” Let us once again “mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor,” but not to Donald Trump.
