Move forward with Prop. 1

I am writing in wholehearted support for Prop. 1, STA’s “Moving Forward Plan” that is on the November ballot. The name of the plan creates the keywords “moving” and “forward.”

Spokane needs to move forward with more transportation options. Traffic will only increase in Spokane as there will be 100,000 people and 65,000 new jobs in the next 10 years. With expanding bus service, car owners can take the bus to and from work instead of driving and dealing with heavy traffic, fluctuating gas prices and parking.

People who don’t drive and rely on the bus for everything they do — work, doctor’s appointments, food and holiday shopping — need reliable bus service beyond the 9 to 5 work hours. Transportation has a direct link to commerce, which increases the tax base for all city services and decreases road wear and tear. We won’t have to endure as many all-summer shutdowns of major roadways in the future like we did during this construction year.

It’s time for Spokane to move forward. Life in Spokane is not going to get any slower. Transportation must keep up. STA Proposition 1 “Moving Forward” needs to pass.
