Wiggins the only choice
Your endorsement in the race for Supreme Court Position 6 lacks essential information about the qualifications of the candidates, Federal Way Municipal Court Judge Dave Larson and current Supreme Court Justice Charlie Wiggins.
The Review acknowledges that “Larson’s leap from Municipal Court may seem large.” Municipal court judges are limited to hearing traffic infractions, criminal and gross misdemeanors and civil vehicle impound hearings. Even assuming that this limited experience marginally qualifies one to address issues at the state Supreme Court level, taking a leadership role in addressing a scandal is irrelevant to and does not qualify one to address the legal complexities of cases at the high court.
By contrast, Justice Wiggins has written over 110 opinions in his six years on the court, has over 30 years of experience as both a trial and appellate lawyer, and argued hundreds of cases before the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court itself.
It does the public a great disservice if an endorsement is not accompanied by an objective recitation of each candidates’ qualifications and their relevance to the position under consideration. When doing so, there can be little doubt that Justice Wiggins is the only choice for Position 6.
