Choose like a foodie
“Listen up, everyone,” the cook says. “It’s time to select our next four-year lunch menu. As always, your choice is chicken or pork. But this year, we’ll smother the chicken in mushrooms, and marinate the pork in chipotle sauce.” With the exception of a few thrilled faces, the crowd grumbles. Chicken or pork. Again.
A disappointed foodie contemplates her other options. Fish sounds delicious, or perhaps a succulent beef dish. She scans the cafeteria and notices dissatisfied people gathering in separate meat factions.
Suddenly, some chicken fans yell, “You realize chipotle peppers cause indigestion, right? A vote for pork is a vote for acid reflux!” A pro-porker shouts back, “Yeah, well that chicken was slaughtered inhumanely! And who likes fungus? Disgusting!”
The bewildered foodie raises her hand, “How about we try something new? I know we can’t please everyone,” she eyes the vegetarians, “but if we work together, we’ll find a better option.”
“Idiotic!” “A vote for fish is a vote against pork!” “Think of the chicken!”
Rather than feeling discouraged, her resolve grows. She will champion change today hoping she’ll help pave a brighter path for tomorrow. How very foodie of her.
