CHS needs to come clean
Our community hospitals need to be run transparently so that patients have peace of mind. The recent questions about whether or not Valley and Deaconess Hospitals are going to be sold by the behemoth Community Health Systems corporation shows that the corporation has its bottom line and not patient well-being in mind.
As a registered nurse, I see every day the impact that a for-profit can have on patients. Hospital staff are rushing from patient to patient, nurses are unable to take breaks in their 12-hour shifts, and we’re pressured to always do more rather than to always do better. And now, we’re not sure whether a Tennessee-based for profit will be shuttering or selling our hospitals because they’re not profitable enough? This is no way to care for our community.
CHS needs to immediately come clean with our community. Are our hospitals for sale? We ought to know.
