VA services denied
As we honor those who have served in our military, I would like to point out that there are a multitude of honorably discharged veterans who do not qualify for the services of the VA. My stepfather, who honorably served in the Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam eras, is one them. His position was considered so highly classified that he was not allowed outside of the U.S. during the Vietnam conflict.
As a result, even with 20 years of honorable service to our great country, he has been denied access to the VA system. This, I believe, is a travesty. There has been much stated about the VA not doing enough or the treatment being too slow for many servicemen and women. But for many, the VA does not serve them at all, a fact that I believe surprises most Americans.
We need to acknowledge this disgraceful fact and pledge to change it. Our veterans deserve our support. Start by contacting your federal representatives. And, thank veterans for their service and sacrifice.
