Minimum wage upsetting

I-1433 (the Washington state minimum wage increase initiative) passed. I wonder if it is was worth it. I hope that there are enough people out there who benefit from it to offset the inevitable price increases, layoffs and small-business closures.

Personally, for me, it really stinks. Two years of college education and three years of hard work with hard-earned annual wage increases now boil down to one unmistakable fact: As of Jan. 1, I will be working for minimum wage. That is, if I even get to keep my job.

I guess I should be comforted by the fact that it might benefit some people, but somehow this doesn’t make me feel any better. Maybe because I can’t even imagine who this could possibly benefit. People continually talk about needing a “living wage,” but how can this happen when your expenses increase right along with your income? Can someone explain to me how this is good? Because all I see is how unfair it is.

I feel sad, angry and frustrated. I’m tempted to move to another country. I can join those who are upset by the choice of president.
