Trib: A better way to pick judges?

In a weekend column, Opinion Editor Marty Trillhaase of the Lewiston Tribune comments:

If you’re lucky in life, you may never appear before a judge or even see the inside of a courtroom.

So how do you pick the best person for the bench?

If you live in Alaska, Utah, Wyoming and 19 other states, you delegate that job to an independent commission to evaluate applicants on the basis of experience, temperament and reputation.

That way, you would get a pool of potential judges who know how the decisions they make affect other courts and people. More here.

Question: Would you like to see a change in the way Idaho picks its Supreme Court judges?
