Lewiston Tribune edit: Cheers to Denney
In his Cheers & Jeers column last week, Opinion Editor Marty Trillhaase of the Lewiston Tribune gave CHEERS … to Idaho Secretary of State Lawerence “Boss” Denney:
” Although he sits atop Idaho’s election machinery, Tuesday he joined the troops. If you voted at the Nez Perce County Fair building, you saw Denney - a former Idaho House speaker elected to his current post two years ago - volunteering as a poll worker in Precinct 21. He formally accepted ballots and called out the names of those who voted.
“This idea of the secretary of the state toiling in the fields of the balloting process began last spring when Nez Perce County Clerk-Auditor Patty Weeks invited Denney to come to Lewiston for the May 17 primary.
“Denney had a scheduling conflict because he had to attend a state Land Board meeting, but he asked for a rain check.
“The secretary of state showed up for duty at 7:30 a.m. He remained at the fair building until after the polls closed more than 12 hours later.” More here.
His day didn’t end there.
