NRA hiding gun deaths of innocent people

Your Nov. 5 article entitled “Bullet fired at car hits house, kills woman” in the “In Brief” section should be more properly titled “Man fires gun at fleeing car thief, kills innocent woman.” Or perhaps guns really do kill people? I know the NRA says they don’t, and of course everything the NRA says is gospel truth.

The S-R needs to take another look at who wrote that headline for you. Consider the dialogue of the NRA and gun rights advocates. Be honest. I’m sure the man who killed this woman is wracked with guilt. His prosecution and punishment at this point are irrelevant. The fact is a man discharged his firearm to scare, hurt or kill a thief and, in the process, shot and killed an innocent woman.

The NRA does not want you to know these things happen. Don’t believe me? Check out their lobbying record. They actively lobby Congress to oppose research into gun deaths like these. I am willing to bet (although thanks to the NRA I can’t be sure) that for every actual criminal lawfully killed by a gun-wielding citizen exercising their Second Amendment rights, there are 10 innocent people killed.
