Wild Card/Monday — 11.28.16
I’ve lived for 40 years in the Inland Northwest without hitting a deer, until Thanksgiving Eve last week. Technically, I guess, I can still say that I haven’t hit a deer. The deer that sprang across Highway 95, south of Wyoming Ave/Hayden, actually hit me. Mrs O & I were returning home from a friend’s house at about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday when a deer sprang across 3 lanes of traffic and nailed us on the driver’s side of my Toyota 4Runner. I saw it out of the corner of my eye. My wife said that the deer’s head even with my through the window. The impact spun the deer around, so it’s rear also dinted the back door on the driver’s side. The deer then bolted off. Once she caught her breath, my wife laughed about the incident. Apparently, there’s a scene from “The Gilmore Girls,” in which a deer hits Rory while she’s driving her mother’s car. I didn’t laugh about it right away. Now I think it’s funny — even with a $500 deductible. Here’s your Monday Wild Card …
