Hatred only begets more

I recently saw the following bumper sticker: “Some People Are Alive Simply Because It Is Illegal To Kill Them.” This was on a pick-up truck driven by a Caucasian man. Wow, really? In what universe is this acceptable?

I wondered who this man thought should be killed if it was legal. Maybe he would want to kill the children born with birth defects, people with disabilities, the elderly, people from the LGBT community, the poor, people of color or maybe all the people with different religious views than him.

Thinking about this list, it includes most of the groups of people that Adolf Hitler murdered. It hurts my heart to know that someone thinks, for whatever reason, that he is superior and would kill other human beings if he could. We are all the same in wanting happiness and no suffering. Our skin color doesn’t make us less human, nor does a disability, age, financial status, sexual orientation or religious affiliation.

In this highly charged political season, let us not forget hatred only begets more hatred. We will survive on this tiny planet only with love, compassion and tolerance.
