‘Backcountry hunting’ theme of state hunting regs photo contest

The Backcountry Hunters & Anglers 2015 Rendezvous will be based at Spokane's Red Lion in the Park March 6-7. (Jess Johnson)

HUNTING — Be on the lookout for a great backcountry hunting photo this season and your image could grace Washington’s 2017 Big-Game Hunting and Seasons Regulations pamphlet.

Each year, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife sponsors a photo contest to select a cover for the upcoming big game pamphlet, which is distributed to license dealers throughout the state.

The theme for 2017 will be “Backcountry Hunting.” Previous themes have included women in hunting and hunting camps.

Take a moment to compose a great shot of your backcountry experience in Washington and email it along with a brief paragraph describing the scene to the WDFW judges at photocontest@dfw.wa.gov.

Submissions should be high-quality, high-resolution photos suitable for publication.

The deadline for submissions is March 1, 2017.
