Hearn: Why won’t Amador debate me?
Democrat Tom Hearn responds to news that Republican Paul Amador has a conflict and won’t debate him at Democratic Club luncheon Friday:
“I assume that I am still going to be on my own this Friday. We’ve given Mr. Amador plenty of time to respond to our request. I first heard about this debate in late August or early September. I would debate Paul in front of Republicans associated with the party, (not a fringe group). Mary Souza was treated very kindly last Friday by the Democrats and Paul would be too. I am not sure what is keeping him from debating me. The fact that he hasn’t been a Republican for long might be a factor. Frankly I think he has been told that he has nothing to gain in this election by debating me might be one reason he has not agreed to a debate. However the people of District 4 have a right to hear from both of us. I am not crazy about debating either, but I feel it is my obligation as a candidate to be accountable and accessible to all the citizens of Coeur d’Alene. Too bad that a nonpartisan group such as the League of Woman Voters didn’t get it together to organize a debate.”
Question: Do you think Amador is dodging Hearn?
