Larch light up the landscape with fall color

Larch in full autumn color in mid-October as seen from I-90 east of Lookout Pass. (Rich Landers)

LANDSCAPES — The needles on larch trees north of Spokane and in the Bitterroot Mountains along I-90 are in full golden bloom before they fall off by the billions to leave the stately trees naked for winter.

Consider hiking Hub Lake above Interstate 90 east of Lookout Pass, trip No. 28 in 100 Hikes in the Inland Northwest, or Abercrombie Mountain Hike No. 9 overlooking the Pend Oreille valley to enjoy the spectacle
